Take Your Foot Off the Brake

Does it sometimes feel as if you take two steps forward and one step back (sometimes three steps back!) as you work toward a goal?  Would you like to experience more peace, joy and wellbeing NOW and let go of invisible obstacles to achieving your goals?  If so, I invite you to keep reading and simply be open to experiencing.

Think back to a time in your life, even if it was only for a brief period, where life seemed to simply flow for you.  You may have seen or used the term “I am in the flow”.  During these times we are present to what we are experiencing and simply allowing life to unfold, without judgment.  We are simply allowing it to be as it is.

Are you in the flow of life at this moment?  Or are you focused on something that you don’t want to experience?  It is helpful to notice something that feels unwanted because we become more clear about what we do want.  When we then shift our consciousness to solution (or what is wanted) and allow that to unfold, we continue to move forward.

However, when we remain focused on a “problem” or unwanted experience, it is like putting our foot on the brake and slowing the flow of life.  In essence, we are slowing energy from moving forward and taking us to a new place or outcome.  When we resist what is we put our foot on the brake, slowing the flow of life’s energy.  Merriam-Webster dictionary defines resist as “to exert force in opposition” and resistance as “an opposing or retarding force”.  So, resistance is exerting force (energy) against something in our lives, thereby holding it in place with our use of force.

Many of the signs of resistance can be subtle and you might ask “How do I know I am resisting anything?  I don’t think I am.”  These are feelings as well but they may also be indicators of resisting some aspect(s) of what is.
-         You are complaining or joining in with the complaints of another
-         feel tightness or contraction in your body
-         are wanting to withdraw or pull away
-         are wanting to fix or change a situation, memory or experience
-         are feeling stuck

I have learned some very powerful tools with The Sedona Method® to help me to release or let go of resistance so that I can be more present, enjoy the moment and allow the energy in my life to flow.  If you have experience with the Sedona Method®, feel free to skip down to the indented releasing questions.

First, the simplest practice when faced with any uncomfortable emotion, is to welcome it.  According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary welcome means “1)  to greet hospitably and with courtesy or cordiality;  2) to accept with pleasure the occurrence or presence of ”.  Does this seem crazy to you?  Totally opposite of how you have been taught or professionalized?

I used to suppress my emotions all the time until I was open to trying this.  Don’t believe me.  Try for yourself how much more effective and productive (not to mention healthy) this is.

Resisting (suppressing) the emotion is an opposing force and keeps that emotion in place (even if you are able to hide it below the surface—for the moment).  If we allow it or welcome it, the thoughts, emotions—the energy will simply move through and out.

As you read through the series of questions, simply allow yourself some time and space to relax and feel with your heart, as best you can.

Could you welcome any thought or sense that there is a problem that needs to be fixed? Any sense that something should be different than it is?  Any sense of wanting to push against or deny what is?

Could you welcome resisting (whatever it is you don’t like in your life)?  or simply welcome all resistance.

Just relax and open on the inside, as best you can and allow any feelings, images or physical sensations to arise and pass through—even the ones that feel good.

And could you welcome any sense that this feeling of resistance is personal?  That it is your feeling?  That it is about you or who you are?

Allow yourself some time for each question and repeat the series until you begin to feel lighter or freer.

This next set of questions is called a holistic release.  We go back and forth welcoming each side of a polarity until the emotional charge is gone—usually 8 or 9 times through.  Feel free to modify the words to capture the opposite to resisting/resistance as best you can.

Could you simply allow yourself to welcome any resistance to xxxxx? Could you welcome any resisting anything?

Could you welcome any attachment, or wanting to hold onto, xxxx?  Could you welcome wanting to hold onto anything?

Allow yourself some time for each question and repeat the series of questions eight or nine times.

I hope you found these exercises helpful.  It has been a pleasure to share them with you and support you in living a life that you love.

If you find that you need a little more support with this, I invite you to click the link above, on the right side of the page, to view Letting Go and/or order the DVD.  Hale Dwoskin teaches and takes a group through powerful releases in just over an hour.  It is a great way to learn and practice releasing. We would love to have you join us and experience the power of releasing with a group at one of our upcoming events. If you prefer to work one-on-one on issues, you may want to take a look to see if coaching may be a good option for you at this time.

Best wishes until we next connect!
